Ty Fisher is our newest addition to the Steelworks Strength Systems coaching staff and we couldn’t be more excited for him to be coming on board.
A native of Pennsylvania, Ty grew up just outside of Scranton in a small town called Berwick. In his early years, he was big into motocross, winning nine Pennsylvania State Championship titles.
When he reached high school he discovered that he was passionate about running. His hard work earned him a top-30 finish at the PA State Cross Country Championships in 2016.
Warmer weather called him down to Palm Beach Atlantic University in Florida where he not only earned a bachelor’s degree in health and human performance, but also competed for the university’s cross country and track programs. A successful athletic career followed as Ty set school records in the 1500 m, 5000 m, 8000 m cross country, and 10,000 m events.
Currently in his own training in the gym he is a lover of the squat, but detests pullups. (“I can do them, but they never get easier!”)
As a coach, Ty is incredibly knowledgeable and skilled as he has one of the most sought out and respected certifications in the fitness industry, the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist cert (CSCS) from the National Strength Coaching Association. He also earned his Level 1 certification from United States Weightlifting.
Outside of his coaching role, Ty enjoys spending time with his wife, Yesenia, and dog, Arrow. They love walking throughout the trails of the Wissahickon and discovering new restaurants in the city (Ty is open to suggestions!). He’s also a big lover of traveling, too! A backpacking trip took him throughout England, France, and Switzerland. Ty also traveled to Italy and especially enjoyed Rome. Another favorite place was Costa Rica, where he zip lined through the rainforest and surfed a ton.
Coaching and fitness for Ty is a multifaceted experience.
“Fitness to me is an act of discovery and care for the body we have been given. Only when we embark on our own fitness journey do we learn more about what makes us unique. Sometimes along our fitness journey, we face intimidating barriers. Coaching to me is all about cultivating belief in others and elevating the individual as a whole. My coaches cultivated this in me and now as a coach, I aim to do the same.”
Welcome aboard, Ty!!
