Steelworks Offers 90 minute Weightlifting Clinic to the Youth of Philadelphia

 Philadelphia – In partnership with Give and Go Athletics, Steelworks is proud to announce its first ever Youth Weightlifting Clinic. This FREE clinic is open to any young person between the ages of 13-18 and lives in the city of Philadelphia.  (Preference will be given to youth living within the 19130, 19121 zip codes).

During this 90-minute clinic, participants will learn how to move athletically. Starting with the basic bodyweight movements such as the air squat, athletes will be learning the three lifts associated with classic Olympic-style weightlifting. These lifts are the snatch, clean, and jerk.

Why learn Olympic-style weightlifting?

For any young athlete looking to improve his or her performance on the athletic field, there is no better tool than Olympic-style weightlifting. Arguably the most technical movements in sport, the three lifts develop power, speed, strength, coordination, and mobility, all key facets for becoming a high performing athlete. Training these lifts also teaches patience, calmness of mind, and discipline, important skills not just for developing athletes, but well rounded people, too!
