Here’s Russ showing some really solid bear crawls during yesterday’s Performance strength work.

The more I’ve been thinking about primal movement patterns, the more fascinating they become. Movements like crawling and rolling are not only fun to do, but their simplicity connects us to our primitive past and athleticism. These movements are also great strength and conditioning tools for all levels of athletes. They teach coordination and body awareness. They help activate key muscle groups such as the core. Finally, the low technical nature of these movements help build muscular stamina with very little strain on the CNS and potential risk to the athlete.

I’ll be continuing to delve a bit more into the essence of these movements. You might even see a standard general primal movement warmup at Steelworks Strength Systems in the near future, too.
